The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is investigating an incident that occurred on February 27, 2023, in Winnipeg.
On February 27, 2023, the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) reported an incident to the IIU that occurred that same day around 1:25 a.m. According to the notification, WPS officers responded to a call for service from Victoria Hospital for an intoxicated male requiring transport.
Officers attended the hospital around 4:30 a.m. to transport the male. Upon arrival at Main Street Project the male was unresponsive and an ambulance was called. The male was transported to Health Sciences Centre where he remains in medical intensive care.
The IIU has assumed responsibility for this investigation in accordance with section 65(1) of the Police Services Act.
