The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) is investigating the recent death of a male in the presence of RCMP in Bloodvein First Nation.
On March 8, 2023, RCMP reported an incident to the IIU that occurred on March 7, 2023, at 2:20pm. According to the notification, officers were called to a residence around 2:20pm. for an intoxicated person causing a disturbance. Upon arrival on scene, officers located a male lying on the floor in the residence. The male was observed to be breathing and responsive. Officers transported the male to the Bloodvein nursing station, as there was no ambulance service available, where he was assessed and found unresponsive. He was subsequently pronounced deceased.
The IIU has assumed responsibility for this investigation in accordance with section 65(1) of the Police Services Act. As the matter involves a fatality, a request for a civilian monitor will be made to the Manitoba Police Commission.
