St. Pierre-Jolys RCMP are reporting that with the assistance of Police Service Dog Mocha, a 32-year-old Hanover man was arrested and charged in connection to two stolen vehicles.
On April 14, 2023, at approximately 12pm, St. Pierre-Jolys responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle on Road 30N at Road 28E, in the Rural Municipality of Hanover. Officers attended the location and discovered the abandoned vehicle, along with a second vehicle beside it.
Police say that a male was seen beside the second vehicle and when he noticed the officers, he got into the vehicle and fled. The officers subsequently followed the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop at which point the suspect vehicle came to a stop and the driver fled on foot.
The area was then contained and Police Dog Services were deployed. At approximately 2:30pm, Police Service Dog Mocha, along with her handler, tracked the suspect to a wooded area and made an arrest without incident.
Investigation determined that both vehicles were stolen.
RCMP report that 32-year-old Steven Wiebe, from the RM of Hanover, is now facing numerous charges related to this incident, including flight from police and possession of property obtained by crime.
