Virden RCMP are currently investigating a recent hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of a 21-year-old man from Sioux Valley Dakota Nation.
On May 30, 2023, at approximately 9:15am, Virden RCMP received a report of a deceased male found on Cemetery Road in Sioux Valley Dakota Nation. Officers attended the scene and noted signs of the male being struck by a vehicle.
Investigation determined the identity of the deceased male as a 21-year-old male from the community. Police say that the male victim had been walking with friends when he split off from the group to head down Cemetery Road.
Police say that as a result of further investigation, a vehicle was seized in the community that is of interest in this incident.
The investigation is continuing with the assistance of a RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist and the RCMP Criminal Collision Investigative Team.
