A 40-year-old female hiker was recently rescued in a joint effort between Lac du Bonnet RCMP and STARS. The incident occurred on the Mantario Trail in Whiteshell Provincial Park.
On August 7, 2023, at approximately 5:25pm, Lac du Bonnet RCMP received a report that a 40-year-old female hiker was experiencing a medical incident on the Mantario Trail. RCMP worked with STARS, who attended and confirmed the female’s location, but were unable to land. Members also worked with conservation officers to get advice on the terrain and location.
Police say that due to the difficulty in accessing the location of the hiker, RCMP deployed a smaller helicopter at approximately 9:30am on August 8. The helicopter transported flight crew and an RCMP officer with experience in the specific terrain.
RCMP report that the rescue attempt was successful and that the female was brought to Lac du Bonnet. Her care was subsequently taken over by Emergency Medical Services.
