On April 29, 2017, at approximately 6:40pm, Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report of a single-vehicle ATV collision that occurred on a dirt trail just off of Provincial Road 331 near the Hoop and Holler bend.
Upon arrival at the scene, police discovered a 31-year-old unresponsive male who was transported to hospital and later pronounced deceased.
Early police investigation shows the ATV was traveling north on the trail when it struck a group of trees, throwing the rider. The rider was not traveling alone at the time of the incident.
RCMP report that the deceased, from Portage, was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and that alcohol is considered a factor in the collision. An RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
