RCMP are reporting that a 73-year-old male suspect has recently been arrested and charged in connection to an assault incident that occurred at a residence located in Somerset, Manitoba.
On August 28, 2023, at approximately 1:25pm, Manitou RCMP responded to an assault in Somerset. It had been reported that a suspect broke into a home and used bear spray and a chainsaw to assault a male.
Officers immediately attended the scene and located an injured 36-year-old male victim who was subsequently taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The male suspect, who was known to the victim, had fled the scene.
A short time later, officers located the suspect and arrested him without incident. Police noted that a small electric chainsaw was recovered and seized.
RCMP report that 73-year-old Frank Solcan has been charged with aggravated assault, breaking and entering, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
