The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) is investigating a motor vehicle collision resulting in serious injuries that occurred at the intersection of Inkster Boulevard and Keewatin Street in Winnipeg.
On Aug. 1, 2023, RCMP notified the IIU of an incident that occurred that morning around 1:25am, while an officer was completing traffic enforcement on Inkster Boulevard. According to the notification, an RCMP officer was attempting to complete a traffic stop when a vehicle sped away. The officer observed the vehicle continue eastbound on Inkster Boulevard where it collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Keewatin Street. The male driver of the first vehicle and the two occupants of the second vehicle were taken to Health Sciences Centre for examination.
As the resulting injuries meet the definition of serious injuries outlined by regulation, the IIU is mandated to investigate.
