Oakbank RCMP are reporting that a 27-year-old Winnipeg woman has recently died as the result of being struck by a vehicle at a location near Dugald, Manitoba.
On September 28, 2023, at 1:50am, officers from Oakbank / Beausejour RCMP received a report of a collision, involving a vehicle and pedestrian, that occurred on Highway 15, approximately six kilometres east of Dugald.
Officers responded to the scene and located the driver, a 31-year-old RM of Whitemouth man. The driver told officers that he was traveling east in his pickup truck when he collided with an object on the highway. The driver then said he turned around and discovered that the object was in fact a person. At this point, the man contacted 911 and provided medical assistance until EMS arrived.
Police say that the female victim, identified as a 27-year-old Winnipeg woman, was found with significant injuries and pronounced deceased on scene. RCMP noted that the injuries were not known at this point if they were related to the collision.
An autopsy of the deceased determined that she died as a result of injuries sustained from being struck by a vehicle prior to the 1:50am collision. With this information, officers returned to the collision scene and conducted a thorough search of the area where vehicle debris was located and seized.
