Manitoba RCMP Traffic Services recently responded to a collision at a railway crossing located on Highway 101, in the Rural Municipality of Springfield, Manitoba.
Police say that a train was approaching the crossing when a semi-truck and trailer failed to stop at the rail crossing. The semi then went into the ditch and subsequently over the train tracks, causing damage to them. Officers noted that the oncoming train could not stop in time and derailed when it went over the damaged tracks.
RCMP report that the 69-year-old male driver of the semi suffered minor injuries, and was charged $672 under the Highway Traffic Act for driving carelessly. He was also issued a serious offence notice.
