The RCMP are now accepting applications for the Indigenous Pre-Cadet Training Program for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people, ages 19-29. The program is intended to provide Indigenous candidates with an opportunity to experience a modified three-week training experience with the RCMP at the RCMP Training Academy in Regina, Saskatchewan.
When at Depot, candidates will learn skills to help prepare them in their application to become a police officer. Once the program is completed, there is ongoing support and guidance as candidates go through the RCMP’s police officer application process.
To be considered for this exciting program, candidates have to be of First Nation, Inuit, or Métis descent, be a Canadian citizen, pass an enhanced reliability security check, be in good physical condition, and possess a Canadian high school diploma or equivalent.
“It gives indigenous youth the opportunity to experience a training session and a first-hand view of what a possible career in police work might entail,” said Cpl. Maureen Greyeyes-Brant, a graduate of the program and now the National Coordinator.
Successful applicants will have all of their costs for the program covered by the RCMP, including travel, meals, and accommodations.
The deadline for applications for those eligible to apply is until December 5, 2023.
