The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is investigating an allegation of fabricating evidence that occurred after an arrest in Brandon in February of 2021.
On December 1, the Brandon Police Service (BPS) notified the IIU of a complaint received on October 14. The complaint was made by a male involved in an arrest in February 2021, who alleged that police officers fabricated information. The male claimed that officers fabricated evidence and falsified information by intentionally including inaccurate information in their notes and reports.
As the act of fabricating evidence is a prescribed offence under the Police Services Act, an investigation is mandatory and the IIU has assumed responsibility.
