Steinbach RCMP are reporting that a 32-year-old wanted male suspect has recently been arrested and charged after ramming into a police vehicle in an attempt to evade police.
On December 19, 2023, as part of an ongoing investigation, Steinbach RCMP along with the Emergency Response Team and Police Dog Services, attended a residence located in Mitchell.
Officers were in the process of executing a warrant to enter the residence and arrest a wanted 32-year-old male suspect, when the man exited the residence, got into a vehicle and attempted to drive off. Officers blocked the suspect in, however the suspect refused to stop and rammed a police vehicle. The suspect’s vehicle became inoperable and he was subsequently arrested.
Police say that there were no injuries as a result of this incident and that the vehicle used by the suspect was confirmed to be stolen.
RCMP report that 32-year-old Steven Wiebe was remanded into custody and is facing charges of assault on a peace officer, assault with a weapon, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from a peace officer, resisting arrest, operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited, possession of property obtained by crime and failing to comply. Wiebe is also wanted on 26 other outstanding charges.
