A Ste. Anne man, along with a woman from Winnipeg, were recently arrested and charged after Steinbach RCMP responded to a complaint of a suspicious vehicle in the Rural Municipality of Tache.
On December 23, 2023, at 7:45pm, Steinbach RCMP received a report regarding a suspicious vehicle that had entered onto a property in the RM of Tache. It was also reported that a male supsect was observed through video surveillance as having entered a shed near the home and that there was another unknown person inside the vehicle.
Police say that a male at the residence, who was an off-duty Winnipeg Police Service officer, went outside to confront the suspect by the shed. The officer was able to restrain the suspect until RCMP members arrived.
Officers noted that the male suspect was arrested and found to be in possession of a knife. The female inside the vehicle was also arrested without incident.
Further investigation determined that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Winnipeg. A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of a stolen firearm (sawed-off shotgun), along with other stolen property.
RCMP report that 32-year-old Steven Pomozybida, from Ste. Anne, Manitoba, along with 36-year-old Druscilla Crate, from Winnipeg, have been charged with multiple firearms, theft and drug related offences. Both were released on a Release Order.
