The Steinbach Fire Department is adding to its ranks. If you are interested in becoming part of an on-call team, applications will be accepted until May 17. Before applying, applicants are encouraged to review all the recruitment information and understand all the requirements.

“We’re excited with the prospect of welcoming another group of quality recruits,” says Kelvin Toews, Steinbach Fire Chief. “I would like to stress that we are not a full-time department and that these are not full-time positions. Having said that, there is a lot of training involved and a huge time commitment for those who are hired.”

Toews explains that new recruits will receive training for about 18 months before receiving their Level 1 Firefighter status. This includes provincial testing and participating in weekly drills.

“It’s also important to know that firefighters can face highly stressful and physically demanding situations,” says Toews. “But we have a great firefighting family and lots of support for our members.”

The Fire Department encourages anyone that would like to learn more to attend the Hiring Open House being held at the Steinbach Fire Hall, located at 477 Main Street, on Saturday, April 13 from 10:00am to 3:00pm and speak with firefighters already employed with the department.

Recruitment information and applications can be viewed on the City of Steinbach’s website at steinbach.ca or can be picked up at Steinbach City Hall, located at 225 Reimer Avenue.
