Steinbach RCMP are reporting that a 24-year-old man from Otterburne, Manitoba, was recently sent to hospital after he crashed the minivan he was driving on Highway 52 West.
On April 6, 2024, at approximately 11:27pm, Steinbach RCMP were advised to be on the lookout for a white Dodge Caravan traveling east on Highway 52. The vehicle had been observed traveling all over the road.
Officers responded and had just proceeded west on Highway 52 when the speed of 180 km/hr was detected on their radar. Police activated their lights, however, the suspect vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and did not stop.
In the interest of public safety, officers deactivated the emergency lights and did not pursue in any sort of way.
Police say that the Dodge Caravan was then observed having the brake lights come on at the curve where Loewen and Highway 52 meet, followed immediately by a cloud of dust. Members say that the vehicle had lost control and drove over several cement curbs, rolling at least once before coming to a stop.
RCMP report that the driver and lone occupant of the vehicle, a 24-year-old man from Otterburne, Manitoba, suffered non-life threatening injuries as a result of the incident and was subsequently transported to hospital.
Steinbach RCMP continue to investigate this incident.
