The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is investigating the circumstances surrounding the arrest of an adult male in Thompson.
On May 10, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) notified the IIU of an incident that resulted in an injury requiring medical attention. According to the notification, on May 9 at approximately 12:31pm, members of the RCMP attended an address in the first block of Ashbury Place to arrest a male wanted on an outstanding warrant.
The officers entered the residence and located the male in a bathroom. The male assaulted an officer. A use-of-force encounter occurred when taking the male into custody. The male was transported to the Thompson General Hospital, where it was determined he had a broken orbital bone.
The civilian director has determined it is in the public interest for the IIU to investigate.
