Selkirk RCMP are reporting that a 31-year-old Grand Marais man has recently been arrested and charged in connection to a criminal investigation involving harassment.
On July 7, 2024, at approximately 1:40pm, Selkirk RCMP received a report of several incidents of criminal harassment with the most recent having just occurred in the Grand Beach Provincial Park.
Officers were advised that a 31-year-old male, from Grand Marais, had approached a female employee in the park and attempted to strike up a conversation. The suspect reportedly provided information about her that he should not have known. Members noted that several other incidents of a similar nature were reported to have occurred within a short period of time.
Further investigation uncovered that the suspect was employed as a Community Safety Officer within a nearby community.
On July 8, 2024, officers attended the residence of the male suspect and placed him under arrest for criminal harassment. Upon his arrest, officers located and seized uniform pants, law enforcement shirts, duty belt, handcuffs, baton and OC spray.
RCMP report that the suspect was later released from police custody on an undertaking for court with numerous conditions. He is scheduled to appear in Selkirk Provincial court later this year in November.
On July 10, Selkirk RCMP received further information that the 31-year-old male suspect, Matthew Madill, may be in possession of a firearm with a tampered serial number. A warrant of arrest was issued and on July 11, Madill turned himself in at the Winnipeg Police Service headquarters where he was later released for a future court date in Winnipeg.
