A Cross Lake man has recently died after accidentally falling out of the back of a pickup truck and then being driven over by the same truck.
On May 27, 2017, at approximately 2:50pm, Cross Lake RCMP received a call reporting that someone had been run over. When police arrived on scene, a 47-year-old male victim from Cross Lake was being rushed to the nursing station. The victim was later pronounced deceased.
Police investigation determined that a 32-year-old male driver from Cross Lake with five passengers was dropping someone off at a residence. Unknown to the occupants of the vehicle, a male had been laying in the box of the pickup. When the truck stopped to drop off a passenger, the male stood in the box, and at that time, the truck had begun to move again, causing the male to fall out of the box of the truck. He was then struck by the vehicle as it was backing up.
RCMP report that the driver was not intoxicated at the time of the incident and that the investigation is ongoing.
