Manitoba Hydro has confirmed the death of one of its employees that occurred during the morning hours of August 8, 2024, at a Hydro work site located in the Interlake.

“Our deepest sympathies go out to the individual’s loved ones, friends and coworkers,” says Manitoba Hydro President and CEO Allan Danroth. “We are devastated to lose a member of our Manitoba Hydro family. The safety of our employees and customers is our top priority and we are committed to fully investigating the cause of this tragedy.”

Officials say that the individual was performing work related to a power outage at the time of the incident. The cause of the fatality is under investigation, but there is no risk to public safety and Manitoba Hydro is fully cooperating with the appropriate authorities.

Manitoba Hydro added that the deceased employee’s name will not be released in order to support the family and respect their privacy.
