The City of Steinbach is advising the public that a portion of northbound Brandt Street is scheduled to be closed to all traffic starting Monday, October 7. The road is expected to reopen on Tuesday, October 15.

Specific closures are as follows:

  • Between Reimer Avenue and Woodhaven/Friesen Avenue, the road will be closed with local traffic access only.
  • Between Woodhaven/Friesen Avenue and Ellice Avenue, the road will be closed to all traffic.
  • Between Ellice Avenue and First Street, one lane will be designated for parking for affected residents to the south.
  • Between First Street and Main Street, both through lanes will be closed and traffic will be directed to use the turning lane as a detour around the
    construction zone.

Northbound traffic on Brandt Street attempting to access PTH 12N will be detoured to Reimer Avenue and Main Street.

Officials say that the closures scheduled will allow the contractor to repair two stormwater catch basins on Brandt Street. While similar repairs have occurred earlier this summer, those were contained to the catch basins themselves or to very short pipe lengths leaving the catch basins. The current repairs require several meters of pipe to be repaired. These pipes run under the northbound travel lanes of Brandt Street and cannot be repaired safely without closing the road.

The City thanks motorists in advance for driving with caution in the area, reducing speeds, following all posted signage, and having patience throughout the Steinbach construction season.
