The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is investigating the death of an adult male following an officer-involved shooting in Dominion City.

On January14, RCMP were notified the IIU of an incident that occurred earlier that day. According to the notification, at approximately 8:31am, RCMP in Morris received a wellness call for a residence in Dominion City. While waiting for backup, a male came towards the first responding officer with a metal object in his hand. The officer commanded the male several times to drop the item, but he continued to advance. The officer discharged a service firearm. The officer immediately started CPR on the male and paramedics who were staged nearby took over. The male was transported to hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to his injuries.

A team of IIU investigators was immediately deployed. As this matter involves a fatality, the IIU will request the Manitoba Police Commission appoint a civilian monitor.

Witnesses or individuals who have information or video footage that may assist this investigation are asked to contact the IIU toll free at 1-844-667-6060.
