Portage la Prairie RCMP are reporting that three suspects, two of them from the area, were arrested and charged stemming from a recently traffic stop that occurred in the community.
On January 22, 2025, officers from the Portage la Prairie RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS) were on patrol and initiated a traffic stop in the 700 block of Tupper Street North.
Police say that two suspects from the vehicle fled into a nearby residence. Officers gave chase and entered the residence, arresting both individuals. A third suspect was arrested while still inside the vehicle.
As a result of this incident, members located over 280 grams of was is believed to be cocaine with an estimated community street value of over $28,000. Also seized was a quantity of cash and other drugs.
RCMP report that 32-year-old Karisten Finlayson of Portage la Prairie, along with 29-year-old Jayden Meeches of Long Plain First Nation, are facing numerous charges, including possession for the purpose of trafficking and resisting arrest. Billy Leon, 22, of Toronto, Ontario, is facing multiple charges related to this incident.
