Stonewall RCMP are reporting that a 30-year-old female suspect was arrested and charged after she was caught on camera handing off drugs to an inmate at Stony Mountain Institution.

On January 29, 2025, at approximately 10pm, Stonewall RCMP responded to Stony Mountain Institution after receiving a report of a visitor passing drugs off to an inmate.

When officers arrived at the scene, they were informed by a Corrections Canada employee that a female visiting an inmate was observed on video handing over a suspicious bag to the inmate. As a result, the visit was immediately stopped and the inmate was searched.

During the search, officers located a balloon that was filled with individual bags of what appeared to be methamphetamine. The drugs had an estimated institutional value of over $29,000.

Stonewall RCMP report that 30-year-old Latisha Lafreniere, of Portage La Prairie, was arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking. Lafreniere was released for a future court date.
