Pembina Valley RCMP, along with Emergency Medical Responders and the local Fire department, recently responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision involving a school bus and pickup truck. The incident occurred at a location in the Rural Municipality of Lorne.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered a pickup truck, along with a school bus lying on its passenger side in the southeast ditch at the intersection of Road 28 North and Road 66 West. Officers say that all 14 children on the bus had already been evacuated.

Investigation determined that the pickup truck was traveling south on Road 66 West, when it collided with the rear driver’s side of the school bus that was heading East on Road 28 North.

Police say that the 17-year-old male driver of the pickup truck, sustained minor injuries and was transported to hospital where he was treated and released.

RCMP report that the children on the bus ranged in age from kindergarten to grade eleven and sustained minor injuries. All students were transported to hospital as a precaution with some of the victims transported to Winnipeg for further assessment.

Charges under the Highway Traffic Act are pending for the driver of the pickup truck.
