Portage la Prairie RCMP are reporting that two male suspects were recently arrested and charged after an attempt to evade police ended up in a head-on collision.

On February 22, 2025 at approximately 7:40pm, while on patrol, a Portage la Prairie RCMP officer spotted a vehicle that had been stolen out of Winnipeg. The officer noted that the vehicle had three male occupants. The officer then activated his emergency equipment in an attempt to initiate a traffic stop on the Tupper Street Bridge.

Police say that two additional cruisers were situated on the south side of the bridge to assist. The suspect vehicle then spotted the cruisers and subsequently sped up, narrowly missing one vehicle and crashing head on into the other police vehicle.

RCMP report that 36-year-old Dana Popko, along with 30-year-old Neepin Moose, both from Winnipeg, were arrested and are facing numerous drug and firearms related charges. The third male suspect was released without charges at this time.

Members noted that Moose had an outstanding warrant of arrest from Winnipeg for being unlawfully at large, as well as an apprehension warrant from the parole board.

Police say that one officer and two of the three suspects received medical attention for minor injuries due to this incident.
