The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is currently investigating a theft incident that took place at a convenience store in Winkler, Manitoba.
On January 28, the Winkler Police Service notified the IIU of an incident that occurred on January 18. According to the notification, Winkler police received a report on January 22 about a theft from a convenience store located on First Street. An adult male, later identified as an off-duty officer, is alleged to have exited the store without paying for an item.
As a result, Winkler Police Service referred the matter to the IIU. The civilian director has determined that it is in the public interest for the IIU to assume conduct of this investigation.
