On July 7, 2017, at approximately 6:35pm, Blue Hills RCMP responded to a report of a man with a firearm at a residence in Spruce Woods, near Shilo, Manitoba.
Military Police from the Canadian Forces Base in Shilo had spotted the individual pointing a firearm at traffic. When RCMP arrived on scene a few minutes later, the male was in the yard of his residence with the firearm, but it was no longer being pointed at traffic.
RCMP and Military Police worked together to establish a perimeter. The north gate of the CFB Shilo was closed as a precaution and RCMP redirected traffic away from the area. Within 15 minutes, the male turned himself into police and he was taken into custody. The firearm was determined to be a pellet gun.
RCMP report that there were no injuries in this incident and that the investigation is continuing. No charges have been laid at this time.
