An elderly Steinbach man has died after the truck he was driving collided into a semi-trailer near La Salle, Manitoba.
On July 10, 2017, at approximately 7:40am, St-Pierre-Jolys RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 75 and Provincial Road 247, west of La Salle, Manitoba.
Early police investigation indicates that the dump-truck was traveling north on Highway 75 when it attempted to turn west onto Provincial Road 247 towards La Salle. At that point the dump-truck collided with a southbound semi-trailer on Highway 75.
As a result of the collision, the driver of the dump-truck was ejected from the vehicle. The driver of the dump-truck, an 84-year-old Steinbach man, along with the male driver of the semi-trailer, a 58-year-old East St. Paul man, were both pronounced deceased at the scene.
RCMP report that both drivers were not wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident and alcohol is not being considered a factor in this collision.
An RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist, along with the RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team, are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
