RCMP continue to search for Campbell Hunter, a northern trapper who was last seen in Thompson, Manitoba, dating back to November of 2016.
On July 20, 2017, Thompson RCMP and employees from Sustainable Development Manitoba conducted a land search of the area surrounding Paint Lake. With the snow melted and still no new information in relation to the disappearance of Campbell Hunter, searchers combed the landscape for any sign of the missing man.
The search consisted of two teams walking in different locations and then being picked up by helicopter to take them to the start of the next search location. The Office of the Fire Commissioner participated in the search with the use of a cadaver dog, a dog specially trained to assist searchers in looking for remains.
“We did not find Mr. Hunter, but I still count this search as a success,” said Sgt. Ben Sewell of the Thompson RCMP. “We have cleared an area. We can move onto other areas now.”
The investigation continues and community groups, including people from Hunter’s home community of Nelson House, continue to work with police and conduct searches.
