Three Portage la Prairie men have been arrested and charged in connection to a recent robbery after being tracked down by police dog Ozzy.
On September 10, 2017, at approximately 4:35am, Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to a report of a female being attacked by three masked men at the front of a residence located on Oak Bay in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.
Officers arrived within minutes of the call and met with the victim who advised one of the suspects was armed with a rifle. The suspects ran away from the scene after stealing the victim’s backpack.
Police officers immediately contacted Cpl. Chornomydz and his canine partner Ozzy to assist in tracking down the suspects. Ozzy was put to work and located a track which led to the backyard of a residence on Poplar Bay where Ozzy made an indication to an unlocked shed. The officers entered the shed and arrested the three suspects without incident.
RCMP report that three adult male residents of Portage la Prairie have been charged and remanded into custody. Charged in this incident was 23-year-old Joshua Catcheway, 25-year-old Maurice Merrick and 26-year-old Stewart Young. All men are facing charges of assault with a weapon, robbery with a firearm, possessing a weapon dangerous to the public and disguise with intent.
