On October 6, 2017, at approximately 5:25 am, Selkirk RCMP received a call stating that there was an overdue canoer at Sunset Beach, located just south of Grand Marais, Manitoba.
Information was received that a 53-year-old Winnipeg man had gone fishing at Sunset Beach the previous evening, as he had done many times in the past, and had not returned home. His vehicle and trailer were found at the beach early Friday morning.
Officers from Selkirk RCMP, Police Dog Services, Search and Rescue along with the assistance from the Canadian Forces Joint Rescue Coordination Centre and the East Beaches Fire & Rescue conducted a search by air, land, and water with no sign of the canoer at this time.
The search and investigation is ongoing.
Update
RCMP report that the 53-year-old male canoer was located deceased. No foul play is suspected.
