On August 26, 2016 at approximately midnight, Portage la Prairie RCMP were called to a local residence on 15th Street that was engulfed in flames.
Police say that the Portage la Prairie Fire Department managed to extinguish the blaze, at which point a deceased person was located on the main floor of the residence. It has been determined that this person was alone in the home at the time of the fire.
Portage RCMP along with the Forensic Identification Section are continuing the investigation to determine the identity of the deceased. The Office of the Fire Commission is investigating the cause of the fire.
