On October 27, 2017, at approximately 4:30pm, Dauphin RCMP received a report of a single-vehicle collision in Riding Mountain National Park, approximately eight kilometres south of the North gate.

Police investigators believe a pickup truck, being driven by a 24-year-old Dauphin man, was traveling south on Highway 10 when it struck a concrete retaining wall and descended down a ravine. Police say that the driver was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

As a result of this incident, Highway 10 in the National Park was closed for several hours for the investigation.

RCMP believe alcohol and speed contributed to the collision. Officers from the Dauphin RCMP Detachment along with a RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist continue to investigate.
