At approximately 2:45am on December 1, 2017, Steinbach RCMP received a report of an accident involving a semi truck on Highway 1 near the Highway 12 intersection.
Police investigation determined that a semi truck and trailer had entered the ditch due to black ice on the road. As a result, RCMP shut down the highway for approximately 30 minutes while the semi was removed.
RCMP want to remind drivers of the dangers of ice build-up during periods where temperatures hover around zero with freezing rain and wet slushy snow existing. Drivers are advised to take precautions and drive slowly, allowing lots of time to stop and continuously assess road conditions to determine an appropriate speed at which to travel.
