On Friday, December 22, 2017, at approximately 6:30pm, officers from the Selkirk RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 9, just north of Highway 17, approximately 30 kilometres northwest of Selkirk, in the RM of St. Andrews.
Police investigators believe that a southbound four-door automobile, driven by a 49-year-old RM of Gimli man, crossed over the center line and struck a northbound pickup truck that was driven by a 50-year-old Winnipeg man.
RCMP report that the driver of the automobile, who was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver and passenger of the pickup truck were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police are unsure at this time if speed or alcohol were factors in this collision. Officers from the Selkirk RCMP Detachment along with an RCMP Forensic Collision Re-constructionist continue to investigate.
