Nominations are open for the national Emergency Management Exemplary Service Award (EMESA), recognizing individuals who have advanced the concepts of emergency management.

“This award recognizes women and men for exceptional service and achievement in the field of emergency management who have gone above and beyond the call of duty in their respective fields,” said Infrastructure Minister Ron Schuler. “Efforts to improve community safety and resilience is the work of many people over time. It is important for individuals and groups to be recognized and acknowledged by their peers as well as other segments of Canadian society.”

The EMESA is a joint federal, provincial and territorial effort co-ordinated through the countrywide group Senior Officials Responsible for Emergency Management.

Nominees for the award will have shown exemplary service and contributions to advancing emergency management, while helping to prevent and mitigate, prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies.

Awards will be granted to groups and individuals in five categories: resilient communities; search and rescue volunteers; search and rescue employees; youth; and outstanding contribution to emergency management.

Any person working or volunteering in the field of emergency management in Canada is eligible. The awards will be presented locally.

Manitoba is accepting nominations for the youth and outstanding contribution to emergency management categories. For more information on the nomination process, visit the Manitoba Emergency Measures Organization website at www.gov.mb.ca/emo.

“Emergency management is a shared responsibility,” said Schuler. “Governments work together to build a strong and resilient municipality, province and country.”
