A 46-year-old Winnipeg man has been arrested after RCMP allege that his intent was to smuggle drugs into Stony Mountain Institution.
On January 24, 2018, officers from the Stonewall RCMP with assistance from Correctional Services Canada received information that an individual was going to attempt to smuggle drugs into Stony Mountain Institution.
Police say that the information received led to a traffic stop in the community of Stonewall. The search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of 26 grams of marijuana shatter, 42 grams of cocaine and a gram of meth. It is believed these drugs were destined for an inmate who was being treated at a local hospital who would then attempt to transport the drugs inside the institution.
RCMP report that 46-year-old Gabriel Bruce, from Winnipeg, was arrested as a result of the investigation. He has been remanded into custody and will be facing numerous drug-related charges.
Stonewall RCMP along with Correctional Services Canada continue to investigate this incident.
