On February 11, 2018, at approximately 1:15pm, officers from the Selkirk RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 9 at Bowser Road in the RM of St. Andrews, Manitoba.
Police investigators believe that a northbound SUV, being driven by a 57-year-old Winnipeg man, was attempting to pass another vehicle when he collided head-on with a southbound pickup truck. The pickup was being driven by a 40-year-old man from the RM of St. Andrews. As a result, the vehicle that was passed subsequently struck debris from the collision and was forced to the side of the road.
Police say that the driver of the SUV, who was not wearing his seatbelt, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck was taken to hospital in serious but non-life threatening condition. It is unknown at this time if he was wearing his seatbelt.
RCMP report alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this collision. Officers from the Selkirk RCMP, along with an RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist, continue to investigate.
