Manitoba RCMP are asking the public for any information that may help locate two inmates that recently escaped from the Stony Mountain Institution.
On February 25, 2018, at 10:10pm, Stonewall RCMP received a report of two missing inmates from the minimum security unit at the Stony Mountain Institution. Officers attended and were advised that the two inmates were last seen at the 7:30pm headcount. A search of the area did not locate either inmate.
The escaped inmates are 21-year-old William Benjamin Hunter-Garrioch and 34-year-old Dale Jacob Gilchrist. Hunter-Garrioch is described as 5’7″ tall, and weighs 126 lbs, has a medium complexion, brown eyes, brown hair and has a scar on his left wrist. Gilchrist is described as 6’2″ tall, weighs 201 lbs, has a fair complexion, blue eyes, brown hair and has tattoos on his neck, abdomen, chest, arms, hands and right leg.
Police believe that both inmates may be on their way to Saskatchewan and have issued warrants for their arrest. They have a history of violence and should not be approached. If seen, RCMP are asking the public to call your local law enforcement agency immediately.
Update
RCMP report that the missing inmates were located and arrested in Winnipeg. In the early morning hours of February 27, the Winnipeg Police Service received information that the two missing inmates were believed to be in the Osborne area of Winnipeg. Officers attended the area and located the two men who were arrested without incident. William Hunter-Garrioch and Dale Gilchrist will be remanded into custody on charges of being unlawfully at large and returned to Stony Mountain Institution.
