Going undefeated in three games last week has earned Steinbach Pistons’ goaltender Matthew Thiessen the Recycle Everywhere MJHL Player of the Week.
It’s said championships are won by great goaltending and Thiessen more than held up his end of the bargain. The native of Altona went 3-0 last week with a very stingy 0.67 save percentage and .973 GAA.
Thiessen, 17, also recorded a shutout in leading the Pistons to their second-ever MJHL championship defeating Virden in six games. Pistons will now take on the Saskatchewan champions for the ANAVET Cup, with the winner of that series moving on to the national championship: RBC Cup tournament.
The runners up are 20-year-old defenceman Mark Taraschuk of the Steinbach Pistons and 19-year-old goaltender Riley McVeigh of the Virden Oil Capitals.
