A City of Steinbach employee is recovering in hospital after experiencing a work-related accident this past week.
At approximately 2:15pm on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, a City of Steinbach Waterworks employee sustained injury while working in an excavated hole. The employee was working as part of a crew replacing an obsolete section of water main in the distribution system, work regularly completed by Waterworks staff.
As a result of the accident, emergency personnel were contacted and ultimately STARS Air Ambulance transported the employee to a Winnipeg hospital for treatment.
The City reports that the employee is recovering in hospital and that Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health and is working with them to review the incident and safety procedures.
The City publicly thanks its employees and first responders for their quick action and care. Providing a safe environment for all City employees is always a top priority.
