On May 3, at 2:30am, officers from the Ashern and Lundar RCMP responded to a single-vehicle collision on Highway 6 at Auction Mart Road, located just south of the community of Ashern.
Police investigators determined that an SUV with two occupants, a 42-year-old female driver from Powerview and a 53-year-old male passenger from Hollow Water First Nation, was traveling north when it rolled into the ditch. The driver, who was not wearing her seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and transported to hospital in critical condition. She later succumbed to her injuries.
RCMP report that the passenger was not injured and it is unclear at this time whether he was wearing a seatbelt. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the collision.
Officers from the Ashern Detachment along with an RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist continue to investigate.
