The world’s only racing championship to feature Polaris’ unique 3-wheeled roadster, called the Slingshot, will kick off Wednesday, May 30th, at Gimli Motorsport Park for a second exciting season of action.
Professional race car driver and Niverville native, David Richert, together with S.A.R. Sport & Recreation, a Polaris dealer in Steinbach, first launched the Slingshot Racing Cup in 2017.
In addition to being present at each race event to ensure that participants receive the necessary training to compete safely, Richert will once again join the racers on-track to help provide a benchmark for their progress.
“I’m really looking forward to this year’s championship as it will be great to continue watching the progress of all our drivers,” said Richert. “Plus, the Slingshot is an absolute blast to drive around the race track so I can’t wait to see if we can set some new lap records this year.”
The Slingshot Racing Cup also offers the public to enjoy an incredibly unique and thrilling experience with the opportunity to jump into Richert’s passenger seat during an official race session. You can enter to win a Ride with David on Richert’s website.
This year’s field of competitors features some new blood mixed in with returning drivers from last year. Myles Kraut in his Karma Property Management Slingshot will be returning to defend his championship in the hotly contested series.
In 2017, several special guests also helped to add flavour to each event, including 2x Olympic Gold Medalist Kaitlyn Lawes who rode to victory with Richert, Brier and World Curling Champion Jeff Stoughton, as well as numerous members of the Winnipeg Jets.
The action gets under way on Wednesday, May 30th, with Practice 1 at 10:15am while the green flag drops on Race 1 in the early afternoon at 2:10pm sharp. Full race results will be posted on the Slingshot Racing Cup website at www.slingshotracingcup.com.
