A 19-year-old youth has died after the vehicle he was a passenger in struck a large tree at a park located in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.
On June 8, 2018, shortly before 2am, Portage la Prairie RCMP learned of a single-vehicle collision at Island Park in Portage la Prairie. Portage emergency services had responded and discovered a pickup truck that had struck a large tree.
Police say that there were two occupants in the vehicle and that the 19-year-old male passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene.
RCMP report that 18-year-old Brandon Friesen has been charged in this incident. Friesen will be facing charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death and dangerous operation of motor vehicle.
Police continue to investigate this incident with the assistance of an RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist.
