Lac du Bonnet RCMP are investigating the drowning of a Winnipeg teen that recently occurred at the in the Lee River at the Old Pinawa Dam site in the RM of Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba.
On July 2, 2018, just after 6pm, Lac du Bonnet RCMP received a report of a possible drowning in the Lee River at the Old Pinawa Dam site off of Provincial Road 520 in the RM of Lac du Bonnet. When officers arrived, they learned that an 18-year-old male from Winnipeg had been swimming with friends down the rapids on the high side of the dam. The friends say that they lost sight of him and that he had not resurfaced.
RCMP report that the male swimmer was not wearing a life jacket.
The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team attended the scene and will be diving at the site as soon as conditions allow. The Lac du Bonnet Fire Department has been on scene assisting with the search. Manitoba Sustainable Development is also assisting.
Police say that access to the Old Pinawa Dam Heritage Park is restricted as the investigation continues.

RCMP report that the 18-year-old male was located deceased by the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team at approximately 12:10pm on July 4, 2018.
