A St. Andrews man is facing numerous firearms-related charges after being arrested by Selkirk RCMP in response to a recent 911 call.
On June 30, 2018, at approximately 9:50pm, Selkirk RCMP were dispatched to a 911 hang-up call at a rural residence in the RM of St. Andrews, Manitoba. Officers attended the home to ensure the safety of any residents.
When officers arrived at the scene, an adult male exited the house shouting at officers to leave his property. He then went back into the house briefly, returned with a firearm and fired one shot.
Police say that none of the officers were hit, and they were able to reposition to a safe area. The officers did not return fire and the male went back in the home. At this time the RCMP Emergency Response Team and Manitoba East District Containment Team were deployed.
RCMP report that more shots were fired by the same suspect during the early morning hours on July 1, 2018. A short time later, the male was arrested without incident. An adult female was also present at the residence during the incident with no injuries being reported.
RCMP Major Crime Services, Forensic Identification Services and the RCMP National Weapons Enforcement Support Team attended to assist with the investigation. Several firearms were seized from the residence.
As a result of the arrest, 56-year-old Sven Barca from the RM of St. Andrews is facing numerous firearms-related charges. Police continue to investigate.
