All smiles for kids and adults alike at The Dream Factory Slingshot Grand Prix.
The Dream Factory Slingshot Grand Prix, presented by S.A.R. in Steinbach, concluded August 16 in the afternoon at Gimli Motorsport Park with Dream Kids, racers and spectators all leaving with enormous smiles on their faces.
Two Dream Kids, Colton and Matty, as well as their families, were in attendance to not only enjoy the action but also take an exciting ride around the race track in both a Polaris Slingshot and Porsche 911 Carrera 4S driven by professional race car driver David Richert.
Dream Kid Matty was all smiles after his simulated launch control race start and lap around the track, “Wow! Very impressive and in a race you’d have to do like 30 more of those, that’s crazy!” said Matty.
This unique event in the Slingshot Racing Cup season helped to raise funds and awareness for The Dream Factory, a Manitoba based charitable organization dedicated to fulfilling dreams for kids who are battling life-threatening illnesses.
The day’s racing culminated in a thrilling finish as Myles Kraut was able to hold off a charging Richert to win the final race of the day by a close margin of just 4 tenths of a second.
“To hear the giggles and see the smiles from these kids as we ripped around the track was definitely the highlight of my day,” said David Richert. “It was a privilege to hang out with them and their families and I need to say an enormous thank you to Porsche Centre Winnipeg, Lakeview Hotels, Prairie Helicopters, Polaris Canada and Smitty’s (Pembina/Grant) for their generous support in helping to make this day possible.”
The Slingshot Racing Cup, organized by S.A.R. Sport & Recreation in Steinbach and Richert Racing, is the only racing championship in the world to feature Polaris’ unique 3-wheeled roadster called the Slingshot. Sponsored by Rainbow Trailers and AMSOIL, the championship features drivers making their introduction to the world of wheel-to-wheel racing.
The next Slingshot Racing Cup event will take place at Gimli Motorsport Park on Wednesday, September, 12th.
