On September 1, at approximately 11:50am, Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to a report of a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 1 at a location between Road 29W and 30W – approximately 3.5 km east of Portage la Prairie.
Initial police investigation has determined that an eastbound car and SUV, pulling a trailer, were traveling together, when both vehicles pulled onto the shoulder. Three occupants exited the two vehicles to fix a strap that was on the trailer.
Police say that a short time later, a third vehicle, also traveling east, veered onto the shoulder and struck the parked vehicles. The impact caused the parked car to go into the ditch, striking an adult female who was then transported to hospital with serious injuries where she remains in stable condition. The two other adult occupants who had stopped to fix the strap were also struck. They were treated by EMS personnel on scene and released.
RCMP report that the investigation is ongoing.
