Blue Hills RCMP located two stolen vehicles and arrested two youth from Brandon after responding to a suspicious vehicle complaint in the RM of Elton, Manitoba.
On September 6, 2018, at 2am, Blue Hills RCMP received a report of a suspicious vehicle on a rural property located in the RM of Elton. The male caller stated that he observed a suspicious pickup truck drive onto his property and believed the occupants from this vehicle had stolen his neighbour’s pickup truck.
Police say that both vehicles sped away with the caller following them. The caller then reported the suspects hit a hydro pole in the community of Douglas. The occupants then fled the scene in the original vehicle, heading towards the City of Brandon. The suspects then crashed the vehicle at the intersection of Provincial Road 110 and 457, resulting in them fleeing on foot and attempting to enter the City along the Assiniboine River, just north of the CP Rail tracks.
Officers from the Blue Hills Detachment, along with assistance from our Police Dog Services Unit and the Brandon Police Service, attended to the area but did not immediately locate the suspects. As officers began a search of the area, a report was received from the public of suspicious persons at a residence near the RM of Cornwallis Park. The two youth fled west towards Brandon where they were arrested by officers from the Brandon Police Service and turned over to RCMP.
RCMP report that the two male youths, a 16-year-old and a 12-year-old from Brandon, were transported to the Blue Hills RCMP Detachment. The 16-year-old remains in police custody and the 12-year-old was released for a court date scheduled for October 30, 2018, in Brandon. The two youths will face numerous Criminal Code charges including theft of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime and trespassing at night.
